Monitoring program

AB "Rėkyva” invested 300 thousand LTL in a 10 -year monitoring program

AB „Rėkyva“ is the first company to invest 300 000 LTL in peat bog monitoring program to be implemented in 2010-2020. Such environmental monitoring will be carried out for the first time in Lithuania. Although independent experts have decided that peat bog activities do not affect Rėkyva lake, the monitoring program will still be implemented.
The program will be implemented in three parts. The first part will consist of a hydrological - hydrogeological monitoring, which will be implemented to measure a real impact of the project on the Rėkyva lake, its basin and its adjacent areas as a result of peat bog drainage activities .
The second part will consist of a monitoring of the swamp and its upper surface of peat layer, which will help to determine if the security area between the lake and wetland will be affected by the peat bog/pool exploitation .
And the last part will consist of a monitoring of the protected habitats and species. Such a monitoring is needed to evaluate the structure of rare species and their habitations.
Due to a high pollution level, it is not recommended to swim in Rėkyva lake and there is a problem of fish dying there as well. Of course, the peat bog activity has nothing to do with it. However, by implementing the monitoring, we hope to attract the attention of public and local authorities, also of researchers, and to begin discussions on measures to improve the condition of the lake,’- says AB Rėkyva representative Mrs. Aperavičienė.
